The Department of Health, Exercise and Sport Sciences at Texas Tech
University is seeking a tenure-track faculty member specializing in
Motor Control/Learning. The position allows for potential collaboration
in the areas of pedagogy, sport and exercise psychology, and allied
health sciences (rehabilitative sciences and other areas).



Responsibilities: Teach undergraduate and graduate courses and advise
graduate students in the area of motor control and motor learning.
Conduct research and seek external funding in the area of
specialization. Provide service to professional organizations.
Responsibilities also include department, college, and university
committee assignments.



Assistant Professor/Associate Professor

Qualifications: The successful candidate will possess a terminal degree
with an emphasis in Motor Control and/or Motor Learning by the time of
appointment (ABD will be considered). The candidate should be able to
teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Motor Control and Motor
Learning. Teaching experience in higher education is preferred. The
successful candidate will have demonstrated potential to establish a
focused line of research, teaching experience, and potential for
obtaining external funding. Consideration for associate professor
status will be dependent upon qualifications.



EFFECTIVE DATE OF APPOINTMENT: Appointment will be effective August 18,
2008.



THE DEPARTMENT AND THE UNIVERSITY: The Department of Health, Exercise,
and Sport Sciences is housed in the College of Arts and Sciences.
Bachelor of Science programs are offered, as well as Master of Science
and collaborative PhD programs. The department currently enrolls over
1000 undergraduate students in programs of Exercise and Sport Sciences
(Physical Education/Teacher Education, Exercise and Health Promotion,
Exercise Sciences, and Sport Studies) and Health (School Health and
Community Health). Approximately 60 graduate students are currently
enrolled in the two Master's degree programs of Exercise and Sport
Sciences (specializations include motor behavior, exercise and sport
psychology, biomechanics, exercise physiology, sport management, and
pedagogy) and Sports Health (specializations include clinical exercise
physiology and clinical exercise science). Additionally, the department
participates in collaborative Ph.D. programs with the College of
Education in Curriculum/Instruction and Educational Psychology, and the
Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Department of Physiology.
Texas Tech University is a state-supported, coeducational institution
with a student population of around 28,000 located in the West Texas
city of Lubbock. The campus is on a 1,839-acre tract, making it one of
the largest in the nation. The Spanish Renaissance-style red-tile roofed
buildings are surrounded by expansive lawns and impressive landscaping.
The university offers opportunities not only for research and study, but
also for varied cultural and recreational activities.
