I am writing to announce the opening of a new tenure-track faculty
position at Michigan Technological University in the Department of
Exercise Science, Health, and Physical Education. We are seeking
candidates with a background in biomechanics research and instruction to
expand our growing department. The ideal candidate would be a
postdoctoral fellow with research and instructional experience in the
field of biomechanics and/or kinesiology or a motivated senior graduate
student in these fields. Candidates should be interested in continuing a
career in academic research and education. Women and underrepresented

Assistant Professor – Exercise Science

Michigan Technological University is accepting applications for a
tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the Department of Exercise
Science, Health and Physical Education. Applicants in all fields of
exercise science/kinesiology will be considered, but the department is
particularly interested in applicants with interests and experience in the
areas of biomechanics, neuromuscular physiology, or motor neuroscience.
Expected start date for this position is August 18, 2008 (pending final
budgetary approval).

Responsibilities/Qualifications: Candidates must have an earned doctorate
in Exercise Science or related field. Teaching responsibilities include
courses in Foundations of Kinesiology, Biomechanics of Human Movement, and
other exercise science courses. Typical teaching load is two courses per
semester. A successful candidate must not only demonstrate evidence of
high
quality teaching, but must also demonstrate a clearly defined research
program. Candidates will be expected to develop a vigorous,
externally-funded research program which will support graduate students
and lead to high-impact journal publications. Research may encompass
cellular/molecular and/or systems approach. Candidates are expected to
engage in departmental, college, university, and professional service
activities. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Michigan Tech is one of four major research universities in the state and
is located in the heart of Upper Michigan’s scenic Keweenaw Peninsula.
This rural area is known for abundant snowfall, beautiful summers, and
outstanding four-season recreational opportunities. In addition, the
University maintains its own downhill ski facility, a nationally
recognized cross-country ski trail system, and a golf course. The
Department of Exercise Science, Health and Physical Education is one of
Michigan Tech’s newest department, home to over 50 majors in just its
