Positions for a Postdoctoral Fellow and a Graduate Assistant in Motor Control
Dagmar Sternad, Action Lab
Pennsylvania State University
Departments of Kinesiology and Integrative Biosciences

We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow and a graduate assistant to work in the area of motor control. Our research is on motor control and learning, with a focus on stability and variability in human sensorimotor systems, with extensions to clinical populations and rehabilitation. Our interdisciplinary research program bridges the areas of motor control, biomechanics and engineering, neuroscience and psychology. The overall goal of our research is to understand the generation of perceptually controlled behavior in biological systems.

Several experimental stations are developed and ready for use, ranging from two virtual reality set-ups with a robot manipulandum, 3D motion analysis system with surface EMG, to facilities for the analysis of brain imaging data. Our laboratory is currently supported by the National Science Foundation, The National Institutes of Health and the Office of Naval Research. For more information visit our website.

Candidates should have a Ph.D. in Kinesiology, Biology, Physical and Engineering Sciences, or Neuroscience or Psychology with an academic record of scientific excellence, independent research, and a strong interest in an interdisciplinary approach to motor control. The applicant should have expertise in at least one of the following fields: motor control, biomechanics, dynamic modeling, perception of motion, neuroscience. Experience in programming is expected (Matlab, C++, Graphics programming, etc.). He/she is expected to get involved in existing research projects but is also encouraged to bring to bear his/her expertise into the research project.

The Department of Kinesiology at the Pennsylvania State University has a strong focus on motor control and biomechanics with many faculty members working on related issues. This provides a stimulating environment for collaborations and interdisciplinary research. The department also offers a broad spectrum of graduate courses and seminars in this area of research, offering an excellent educational setting for students.

Applicants should submit a curriculum vita, including a list of publications, and two letters of recommendation to be sent to the address below. To receive full consideration application materials should be received by December 20, 2007.
