Departmental Information

The Department of Health and Human Development at Montana
State University is part of the College of Education, Health and Human
Development. The department has 27 tenured or tenure-track faculty,
approximately 600 undergraduates and approximately 100 graduate
students. The mission of the department is to enrich human well-being
through teaching, research, and outreach. The department prides itself
on its high teaching standards, research achievements and its extensive

Salary Academic year tenure-track Assistant or Associate
Professor position. A competitive salary and start-up package will be
offered on the basis of the candidate's qualifications. Estimated
Assistant Professor salary would be $45,000, and Associate Professor
salary would be approximately $55,000, depending on experience and
background. Group dental-hospital-medical insurance plan, TIAA-CREF
retirement programs, and voluntary enrollment in tax-sheltered annuity
programs are available.


Duties and Responsibilities

(1) Teach undergraduate courses in exercise physiology, and other
exercise science courses such as research methods, anatomical
kinesiology, strength and conditioning. The successful candidate will
also be expected to develop a graduate course within their area of
expertise which complements the existing curriculum.

(2) Develop a rigorous independent research program in their area of
expertise. It is expected that this research will lead to external
funding, presentation at the regional, national and international level,
publication in peer-reviewed journals, and will include undergraduate
and graduate students.

(3) Advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students and
participate on departmental, college and university committees as
appropriate.


Required Qualifications

(1) Ph.D. in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Physiology or related
discipline. ABD's considered if it is anticipated that dissertation will
be defended by August 1st, 2008.

(2) Record of or potential to develop an independent research program
resulting in peer-reviewed publications.

(3) Demonstrated ability to teach exercise physiology with associated
labs, and other exercise science courses.


Preferred Qualifications

(1) Classroom teaching experience.

(2) Experience in mentoring undergraduate and graduate students
engaged in independent research.

(3) Experience in preparation of proposals for extramural funding of
research.


The Successful Candidate Will

Be a dynamic scientist and educator who will (i) help MSU continue to
provide outstanding research, teaching and service in health and human
performance; (ii) have effective interpersonal skills including the
ability to collaborate with faculty, staff, and students in an
interdisciplinary manner to address the department mission of human
well-being; and (iii) have superior written and oral communication
skills.
