Position: Assistant Professor; Tenure-Track

Appointment: Nine-month, full-time, tenure-track appointment; starting date - August 2008 (Negotiable)


Qualifications: Required: Completed Doctorate in Health and Exercise Science or related field, or M.D; evidence of quality publication record; evidence of potential for and/or record of external grant funding. Preferred: minimum of two years post-doctoral training, previous tenure-track appointment, or comparable research faculty appointment; university-level teaching experience; ability to enhance the department's commitment to diversity and multiculturalism through research, teaching and/or outreach with relevant programs, goals and activities.



Priority Research Area: Applicants are sought who utilize basic or applied/integrative methodologies to address national public health issues (e.g. Aging/Frailty, Cancer, Cardiovascular, Diabetes, Obesity, Orthopaedic Injury Prevention/Rehabilitation) within the broad research categories of: BIOMECHANICS, MOLECULAR PHYSIOLOGY, or NEUROPHYSIOLOGY/NEURAL CONTROL.


Responsibilities: Conduct independent and collaborative research; aggressively seek and maintain extramural funding; publish in high impact journals; direct Master's, Doctoral and post-doctoral research; teach relevant undergraduate and graduate courses; participate in student advisement; and perform relevant University and professional service.

Expectations: The successful candidate is expected to establish and maintain a nationally recognized externally funded research program, and to integrate their research into current and new academic courses. The successful candidate will have outstanding departmental support, strong research infrastructure, excellent departmental colleagues, and potential for collaborative opportunities within the department and with relevant units on and off campus.

Salary and Rank: Salary: competitive and commensurate with qualifications. Rank: Assistant Professor.

University Description: Colorado State University is located in Fort Collins (ranked #1 best place to live by Money Magazine 2006) and is a community of approximately 137,000 located 65 miles north of Denver and 45 miles south of Cheyenne, WY. Located at the foot of the Rocky Mountains, Fort Collins is within an hour's drive of many major recreational areas. A faculty of over 1,500 guides approximately 26,000 students enrolled in professional, graduate and undergraduate programs. The Department of Health and Exercise Science has ~950 undergraduate majors, 25 M.S. graduate students, and 5 Ph.D. students. Seven new faculty have joined the department since 2002. Currently, 6 faculty are NIH funded. A new MPH program which is currently undergoing final State approval and the recently established School of Biomedical Engineering provide great new collaborative opportunities. Recent and ongoing facility additions and remodeling provide modern classroom and research facilities. The faculty is committed to developing a department of excellence grounded in science and the discovery process. With the overall growth in the department, there has also been growing student diversity.
