Call for candidatures from the UniversitÃ
Pierre et Marie Curie (UPMC) and the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique
The laboratory « Neurobiology of Adaptative Processes » (NPA) is a research unit (UMR7102) in the heart of Paris, affiliated with the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) and the UniversitÃ
Pierre et Marie Curie (UPMC, Paris-6). There are three major axes of research in the UMR : 1) development and repair of the nervous system ; 2) the dynamics, functional roles and plasticity of neuronal networks; 3) normal and pathological aging of the nervous system. The experimental approaches used xtend from cellular and molecular biology to electrophysiology, cellular imaging, behavioural nalysis, and computational modelling.
The NPA laboratory has established conditions for innovative and multidisciplinary esearch, covering broad domains of cellular and integrated neurosciences. The laboratory currently consists of about 130 staff in 12 research teams http://npa.upmc.fr). In addition to the internal technical resources of the laboratory (two-photon imaging, an L2/A2 facility for viral vector manipulation in vivo and ex vivo, etc...), the research developed in the laboratory is also supported by the technical facilities of the IFR83 within the university. Beginning in January 2009, the UMR will also include a Research and Development Centre established on the site of the Charles Foix Hospital in Ivry-sur-Seine, which will offer an animal facility for maintaining and henotyping aging animals (up to 30,000 rodents, with facilities for surgery, genotyping, behaviour, and electrophysiology).
The NPA laboratory aims to continue its extension with the integration of several new teams, with research projects in one of the three axes of the UMR yet also introducing new models and experimental approaches. The integration of these teams is planned for January 2010. Applications are solicited from individual researchers capable of creating an emerging team, or from existing research teams. The successful candidates or teams will be selected based on the capacity to develop independent and innovative research, in synergy with the other research teams in the UMR.
Candidatures, including a CV, a list of publications, a brief research summary and a cover letter should be addressed before February 15, 2009 to :
