Research Position (Neuromechanics of dynamic movement, Department of
Kinesiology & Physical Education, Wilfrid Laurier University, Waterloo,
Ontario, CANADA)

We are currently looking for a research associate (or Post-Doctoral Fellow,
or Graduate student) in either the area of biomechanics or kinesiology.

Projects that are on-going in the laboratory involve the mechanical and
sensory function of the foot and footwear (including orthotics) in dynamic
balance control in older adults and other activities (including running and
work related situations). Dr. Perry's research is focused upon how the
musculoskeletal and sensory systems are utilized in the control of human
movement. As the population ages it is important to understand both the
'normal' healthy young adult function and then how the age-related
deterioration of our musculoskeletal and sensory systems may have serious
consequences especially when considering how important these systems are in
controlling the postural reactions that prevent us from falling. This is an
opportunity to work in a laboratory investigating an emerging research area
(how footwear and foot disorders influence control of dynamic movements)
that could have a dramatic impact on our quality of life as we grow older.

Ideally we are looking for an individual with an MSc in Biomechanics or
related field or BSc in Kinesiology or related field with 1-2 years of
laboratory experience. The individual should have experience recruiting
subjects, setup and maintenance of the laboratory equipment, conducting
experiments, analysis of data, the formation of focus groups, and
publication preparation. It is critical that the applicant is familiar with
the operation of biomechanical collection equipment (Force plates, OptoTRAK,
EMG, Pressure sensors, etc) and procedures for experimentation with human
subjects (especially older adults). Computer knowledge pertaining to word
processing, spreadsheets, reference database and statistical packages is
essential (Visual Basic knowledge would be an asset).

PLEASE NOTE THAT CANADIAN CITIZENS WILL BE GIVEN PRIORITY.

Please send a CV/Resume and a list of references to:
