Dear All

Please find details of an EPSRC funded Post Doctoral Research Officer position available in the Cardiff School of Sport, Sport Biomechanics Research Group. Details are as follows:

Job Title: Research Officer: Sesame Project (Two year fixed term contract with effect from January 2009)

Department: Biomechanics, Cardiff School of Sport

Grade: 4AB

Salary: £21,599 - £25,763 p.a.

Closing date: 27th October 2008

Accountable to: Sesame Project Leader, Professor David G Kerwin

Purpose of Post

The Cardiff School of Sport has recently been awarded a four-year EPSRC grant to carry out high-quality scientific research to produce deployable systems that have a positive and measurable impact on the training of elite athletes. The project is application led and multidisciplinary and aims to:

Understand coaching requirements by working with coaches throughout the lifetime of the project.

Support both athletes' and coaches' training and education.

Explore feasibility of correcting actions and building 'muscle memory' (the

proprioceptive sense) through the use of real-time non-invasive wireless signalling.

Compare and evaluate different athletes' actions and performance, identifying advantages and disadvantages and informing customised feedback for individuals.

Place the UK firmly at the forefront of sporting technology.

The R&D process within the SESAME project is driven by a set of critical technical objectives. Consequently, the project activities have been structured as a set of interlinked milestones; these will be tackled by interdisciplinary inter institutional teams, led by scientists and engineers with world-leading expertise.
