Lab Technician Job Posting
Developmental Neuromotor Control Lab, Division of Kinesiology, University of Michigan

Ideal candidate would have experience in a research lab using motion-capture and EMG equipment to collect and process gait data. The ability to use MATLAB and LabVIEW programs to process data and prepare for analyses is necessary. Experience writing programs in MatLab, LabView or other tools would be a plus. Technician will be responsible primarily for assuring the smooth integration among hardware and software in experimental settings that involve multiple synchronized data collection systems for in-lab and in-home data collections. Secondarily, will assist in data reduction and processing. Tasks will include, for example, assisting in determination of ideal organization of equipment for test setup, trouble-shooting problems, training new members in the lab to use all equipment, and advising on new purchases.
We study human gait, participants range in age from one month to the frail elderly, including healthy persons and persons with developmental disabilities. We assess sensorimotor capacities and the impact of interventions on gait patterns and on the function and integrity of the subsystems (neural, muscular, bone density, growth, etc.) Equipment in our lab includes a 6-camera Peak Motus motion capture system, 2-camera portable motion capture system, two 8-channel EMG systems, a GAITRite mat, infant reflex testing equipment, and an AMTI force platform.
~A background in neuromotor control, biomechanics, engineering, or other related field is expected.
~Appointment can be at the 50-100% level; salary commensurate with qualifications.
~Applicants wishing to obtain a one-year appointment only will not be considered.
